PPM announces upgraded A.M. Best Rating

Overland Park, KS - July 13, 2016 - Preferred Physicians Medical (PPM), industry leading provider of professional liability insurance for anesthesia practices, announced today the company’s A.M. Best rating has been upgraded to A (Excellent) with a stable outlook.

In its rating announcement, A.M. Best, the industry’s leading independent insurance rating organization, notes the A rating reflects PPM’s “strong risk-adjusted capitalization, its extended trend of above average earnings driven by very profitable underwriting through market cycles, and a business profile focused on providing medical professional liability coverage to anesthesiologists in multiple states.” In addition to noting PPM’s strong capitalization, A.M. Best also explains, PPM’s “underwriting gains have been driven by the company’s focused underwriting strategy, extensive risk management program, geographic diversification, low claims frequency and conservative reserving.”

For more information see A.M. Best's press release.

PPM’s CEO, Steve Sanford, notes “this rating upgrade acknowledges PPM’s strong financial results and the Company’s long-term success navigating an evolving healthcare landscape.” According to Sanford, “the upgraded rating was bolstered by the commitment of PPM’s Board of Directors to build long-term financial stability and shareholder value. It is also a testament to the continued quality of care provided by our policyholders and their willingness to place significant importance on patient safety and risk management strategies.”

Formed in 1987 by anesthesiologists to specifically address the medical professional liability insurance concerns of anesthesia practices, PPM pioneered the concept of a specialty-specific insurance company. Over the last twenty nine (29) years, PPM has adapted its insurance model to meet and solve the evolving needs of anesthesia practices within a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
