Our Accountant position is a significant opportunity for the right individual. Successful candidates will become an important contributor to the entire organization’s achievements.

We need a professional to assume a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Prepare journal entries to record financial transactions of the Company
  • Understand and maintain multiple spreadsheets used to reconcile and record entries
  • Maintain reports that are run from the general ledger system and insurance system
  • Reconcile and analyze all balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Perform cash reconciliations for all accounts and researching outstanding checks
  • Prepare payroll journal entries for multiple related companies and reconcile all accounts to the bank statements
  • Assist with the reporting to regulatory agencies including the preparation of quarterly and annual statement filings to the NAIC, state insurance departments and rating agencies, including all mailings and required compliance checklists
  • Prepare and file required state and county statutory and federal tax filings including premium taxes and property taxes
  • Develop and maintain management reports as requested
  • Prepare information and audit work papers for audits, both financial and regulatory
  • Assist in developing the annual budget and perform monthly budget analyses
  • Assist with expense reimbursement using multiple online systems
  • Perform accounts payable functions as required as back-up to the Accounts Payable Accountant
  • Track and report unclaimed property to individual states
  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Special projects as assigned

Skills Required:

  • Computer expertise using various software packages, including Microsoft Word, general ledger, accounts payable and fixed assets
  • Very proficient in using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and tools within Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to organize with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of financial statements

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Insurance accounting experience preferred.
